  17. I can't imagine why you are having problems. I have a 16MHz A3000 and use
  18. a USR 28.8k v.everything modem with absolutely no problems. This is what
  19. I run:

  21. -8 color Interlaced Magic Workbench with maximum overscan
  22. -8 color Terminus screen non interlaced(way too slow interlaced!)
  23. -Workbench serial prefs set to maximum baud rate and buffer
  24. -Terminus serial speed set to 57.6k and a buffer of 16
  25. -Standard Commodore serial.device & running AmigaDOS 2.1
  26. -I have 2m chip ram and 12m fast ram, and ALL downloads are to ramdisk

  28. I have no idea what the 8n1.device is or does. What terminal program
  29. are you using? If you are using JR-Comm, that would explain it. I
  30. used to have awful downloading speeds until I switched to Terminus.
  31. JR-Comm also didn't like to multi-task with a mod player, but using
  32. Terminus I can use HippoPlayer(but only 4 channel mods, more than
  33. that and I get serial errors) and use Q-Blue on it's own 8 color
  34. interlaced screen. With all this running I can get 3300 CPS all the
  35. time. The system is pretty sluggish when doing all this, but it works.
  36. Before I upgraded my modem and was running at 14.4k, there was no
  37. apparent slowdown at all, so your system should be flying right now.
  38. The last thing I can think of is that if you are downloading to a
  39. hard drive you don't have the right settings in the terminal program.
  40. Terminus has several settings to compensate for slow hard drives, etc.
  41. Try downloading to ram(if you have enough) to see if this is the problem.
